Strategy

It is important to note that the battle cry of the Blood Knight removes divine shield from all minions that are currently on the battlefield, and because of this a player can use the Blood Knight as both an offensive and defensive play. Using the Blood Knight offensively occurs when a player uses his own minions with divine shield for the Blood Knight to consume, whereas defensive use of the Blood Knight involves the player stripping divine shield from the opponent`s minions. Offensive use of the Blood Knight is perhaps best executed by a Paladin because of cards such as Hand of Protection or Argent Protector, which allow a player to set up divine shields on minions who wouldn`t normally have them or to replace divine shield on a crucial minion after the Blood Knight`s battle cry has resolved. Through use of low cost divine shield cards such as the Argent Squire, cheap combos can be created with the Blood Knight that can be devastating (2 Argent Squire + Blood Knight = 5 cost 9/9 minion) which many times force an opponent into using hard removal or other expensive cards in order to contain the threat.

Defensively this card has the potential to be incredibly valuable due to its low cost; however, if this card is used purely defensively (i.e., no divine shield minions in your own deck), it can quickly become a very mediocre card (3/3 for 3) that is best replaced by other three cost cards if the opponent has little or no divine shield usage in his/her deck. Ideally, decks running Blood Knight should have at least one or two offensive divine shield options in order to minimize the scenarios in which the Blood Knight`s battle cry is wasted.

If you have both this card and several other Divine Shield minions in your hand and on board, it may be correct to not consume all Divine Shields, but to play Blood Knight first and then some Divine Shield minions from your hand. This way you do not risk a great majority of your board being neutralized if your opponent has a cheap way to remove your Blood Knight.

The maximum buff Blood Knight`s Battlecry can grant is +39/+39, with 13 other Divine Shield minions on the board, resulting in a 42/42 Blood Knight.
